Sioux falls dog park
The Sioux Falls Dog Park is a city-owned public dog park located on the city's northwest side. This is the only public dog park in South Dakota.
Located in the City of Sioux Falls and just over the river from the city of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the park has been named the "best dog park in the country."
The Sioux Falls Dog Park is the site of the 2008 and 2009 Dog Jog. In 2008 and 2009, the dog park and a nearby park were the starting point for the annual Dog Jog Relay. The park is also the site of the annual South Dakota Dog Fest and the annual South Dakota Dog Show.
The park
The Sioux Falls Dog Park is a park that was founded by the City of Sioux Falls in the late 1970s.
The park is located on an open grassy knoll on the banks of the nearby Little Sioux River. The Riverfront Park is located directly across the street. The park is adjacent to the South Dakota Children's Museum and the Children's Playground. There is a playground and a dog walk with a leash-free section for dogs to run around. A large parking lot and restroom facilities are located at the main entrance to the park.
The park offers a walking path on the river bank. The path is a scenic trail that features natural stone, river rock, water, birds, and nature. On the left side of the path is a waterfall and on the right side of the path is a rock ledge where visitors can enjoy the view of the Little Sioux River. Just downstream from the rock ledge is a fishing platform where anglers fish for native fish.
On the park's western border is a small section of woods that is separated from the park by a fence. Along the boundary is a small stream that was a result of the damming of the Little Sioux River.
Access to the park is provided through Riverfront Drive and Parkview Drive. Dogs who are well behaved are allowed to run through the park.
A statue of a Great Dane has been placed at the park's entrance.
The park is maintained by the city's Parks Department.
