Two Hands Foods (THF) is an American company that has been producing a corn dog that they market as "seoul fresh" and "hot dog". The original THF corn dog is a hot dog made out of corn that is topped with cheese and chili and served in a sandwich bun with a side of ketchup and a side of sweet and sour slaw. It was developed by THF founder, Peter Hanford, in 1993 at a truck food stand called the "Two Hands Truck" in the North Oakland neighborhood of Oakland, California. The original design and product were quickly taken up by local businesses as a healthier alternative to traditional hot dogs.

Two Hands Foods first expanded nationally in 1997, when the company opened a production facility in Santa Barbara, California. The company then opened several regional production facilities in various states, in addition to growing a sales team and marketing staff.

In 2005, THF became a publicly traded company. By 2006, THF corn dogs were in more than 1,500 stores nationwide. In June 2006, THF sold its initial public offering to buy out competitor Kettle Corn and its parent company, Pinnacle Foods. In June 2006, the company's CEO became the president and CEO of THF. The company's revenue and profits grew to $100 million per year. In August 2006, THF bought Kettle Corn's stake in the company, making it the company's sole owner.

In 2009, THF began to expand outside of the United States, opening a production facility in Canada and one in the United Kingdom. THF continued to expand its international presence in 2012, opening an office in South Korea and starting its own line of international corn dog products for sale in Japan and Singapore.

In 2014, the company was taken over by Chicago-based investment firm the Marmon Group, a publicly traded company. In 2015, THF was rebranded and sold to a private investment company, The Gullane Group. In 2016, the company moved to a new production facility in Chicago, Illinois.

In 2018, the Chicago Tribune named THF's corn dog "Best Corn Dog in America". In 2019, the International Association of Culinary Professionals named THF's "hot dog" as one of the "Great American Classics."


Peter Hanford was a California native who was raised on a farm in the nearby town of Manteca, California. As a teenager, he started his own business selling corn on the cob from his truck. His business, called the Two Hands Truck, sold corn on the cob and ice cream from a truck. The business began in the early 1990s, when Peter was just 16.

At the time, Peter would go to the Oakland County Fairgrounds and sell corn on the cob to fairgoers. He would sell between 20 and 50 pounds of corn every day. He sold this corn by the ear and served it on a Styrofoam tray, which he would then put in a paper sack.

Peter would sell this corn by the ear from the truck's side window. He would go around to the fairgrounds to sell the corn. One day, he was selling this corn at the fairgrounds when a worker came up to him and told him that the corn he was selling was the same corn that he was used to eating, and he liked it.

Peter started selling the corn to his customers on a regular basis, eventually adding other foods, such as chili, cheese, ketchup, mustard, and sweet and sour slaw. Peter sold the corn in bags and sold it as part of his family's ice cream business, the Two Hands Ice Cream and Soda Company. The ice cream company eventually closed its doors in 1997.

Peter started a truck food stand named "Two Hands" after his business. At the stand, Peter would cook hot dogs over an open flame. At the time, the only options for corn dogs were to buy frozen corn dogs, or to go to a "drive through" truck or restaurant that would sell hot dogs. Peter noticed that most of the restaurants and truck food stands were selling similar hot dogs that were made out of bread instead of corn. He believed that he could sell hot dogs made out of corn.

Peter started making corn dogs with the corn that he had been selling at the fairgrounds. He started by mixing the corn with a little salt and pepper and baking it. He then mixed the corn with chili and cheese, served it with ketchup and sweet and sour slaw, and started selling the corn dogs at the truck food stand. He found that the corn dogs sold at the truck food stand were more successful than his homemade corn dogs.

The hot dogs that Peter was selling out of the truck food stand became a popular menu item for the truck food stand. Soon, Peter began serving the corn dogs at the truck food stand for lunch and at other food stands for dinner. His corn dog became so popular that Peter quit his job at the ice cream company to start selling the corn dogs from the truck food stand.

In 1993, the company made its first shipments to a nearby market in Oakland, California. After selling the corn dog to the market, Peter then took the corn dog to the North Oakland neighborhood of Oakland, California, where he sold the corn dogs from his truck. Peter sold the corn dogs from the truck to customers who were hungry for something different than what they were usually buying. He sold the corn dogs for $1 each.

Early years (1993–1998)

Peter Hanford quit his job as an ice cream truck driver to start selling the corn dogs from his truck food stand. By the time the truck food stand first opened, Peter had started to make corn dogs out of corn on his own. In the truck food stand, Peter would mix the corn with chili, cheese, and ketchup and bake the corn dogs over an open flame. He found that corn dogs made with bread were more successful than his homemade corn dogs.

When the truck food stand first opened, Peter would sell the corn dogs for $1 each, but customers would only buy one corn dog and then leave, making it a losing venture for Peter.
