Dog keeps pooping in crate. Help?

By Stephanie

My dog has been pooping inside of his crate for about 2 months now. He does not have an accident when he is outside of the crate. I just went into the crate with him and discovered pooped inside of it. He has been doing this since I got him and it is getting really gross. We have done numerous vet appointments but nothing is helping. His stool seems normal, he is not in any pn and does not seem tired.

I have a rescue that I brought in about a year ago. He had a great litter of pups. His mom is a Pit mix. His litter is mostly males but I did get a male that was a black lab mix and I named him Smokey. He is a male about 12 months old. When I brought him in he had diarrhea and was pooping it out a few feet from his house. They had treated it with antibiotics. I took him to the vet and she sd it was normal. I started to watch and wt for him to poop. He would sometimes go in his house and then come back out and sit in the yard.

I was feeding him twice a day and taking him outside every two hours. The vet sd it was normal. I noticed him eating a lot so I got him on food I thought he would eat. After about a week he started pooping inside of his crate. I started watching him more and he was eating well but he would go to the yard and poop out in the yard. I was watching him more and saw him drink more water. Then I noticed that he was drinking water from his crate. I asked him why he was drinking water from the crate and he sd it was because he was hot.

I did not know how to treat this so I just took him home and fed him a lot. I got him on a high quality dry food and he still pooped in the crate and I did not know what to do. I called the vet and told her I was starting to think he was not healthy and was very sick. She sd it was normal and to continue to feed him and to keep him in the yard when he needed to go out. Then she sd to get him to a vet if it continued. I got him to the vet a few days later and they did a fecal and blood sample.

She sd he was healthy and was just an anxious puppy. The vet sd that I was doing a great job caring for him. I decided to do what they had sd and gave him water. He started to eat a little less and eat only once in the day. He started drinking from his bowl agn. About two weeks later he went back to the vet and I gave him a fecal and blood sample. He still had no parasites.

He went for a check up after that and the vet sd that he was very sick. He had a stomach ache and he had pooped outside of his crate several times. The vet had me give him antibiotics and he seemed to be getting better. A week later the vet came back in and she sd that his poops were normal but he was not pooping on his yard. She did a fecal and blood test and he did have worms. I started to feed him a medicated dry food and I took him to the vet. They sd it was normal to keep him on a medicated food for about one month and that the worms would be gone.

About two months after the first time he went to the vet the vet came back in. He had an ear infection and he had gotten a couple of ticks. I started treating his ear with medicine for ear infections and I also gave him a tick and flea medicine. We started to see an improvement. A couple of weeks later we got the tick and flea medicine. We started to see some of the ticks come out so I also gave him a heart worm medicine. He started to eat a little more and I started to bring him out in the yard more. After about a month of the heart worm medicine he was finally pooping on the yard. He is still very anxious and has a lot of energy. I do not know if his worming helped him or if it was the fact that he was not having an ear infection and his other issues were better. He has not pooped inside of his crate for about a week now.

I have a 12 month old Lab mix. I am a new owner. She got hurt on the job at work and was in the vet and they gave her pn medication and antibiotics. I was told to give her a probiotic after she got out of the vet. I started giving her some yogurt for the probiotic but her stool was not normal. I also did not realize I had to change her food to a food for older dogs, so I just put the yogurt back on her food and told her to eat it.
